Researchers found that "allicin," a component of fresh garlic, acts as an active antiviral agent against five human viruses including flu, colds and Herpes Simplex virus types one and two.

Recent studies in the journal Applied Microbiology also found garlic increases the body’s resistance to infection and is a noteworthy antibiotic.
