Immediately before graduating college in May of 2001, I started to show signs of jaundice. During the next two weeks, the itching became severe and I started making the rounds of doctors. After two weeks and three physicians and innumerable tests resulting in no concrete diagnosis, I was admitted to a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona where a second sonogram showed a stricture approximately 2c long in my common bile duct. This stricture had blocked the flow of bile and caused my bilirubin count (a yellow pigment consisting of bile salt, produced by the liver) to skyrocket. A stent was placed to keep the duct open and allow the flow of bile. For a few days I felt better.
