I believe that one of the greatest benefits of working at Hippocrates is the variety of awesome people we come in contact with on a daily basis. Every Monday morning I look forward to seeing the fresh and curious faces of our newest guests. Some are excited, some are perplexed, but they all seem to be genuinely interested in discovering the magic that makes this place Hippocrates. Still others are familiar faces that have returned to experience the magic a second or third time. Such is the case with Adam and Denise, who come back at least annually.

In the early part of the twentieth century 92 years ago I was born into a meatpacking industry family. Taking advantage of all the available meat I could eat, by the time I was in World War 2 and, 5 years later in Korea, I had my first grand slam heart attack. My left ventricle was so damaged they told me I would not make it. This was not the first near death experience I had had. Back in 1918 I survived the catastrophic flu epidemic that killed thousands. The last time this happened, the doctors said that they would have to stop my heart and restart it and I said “No way”. I meditated until the condition stopped.

It all started in 1989. All of a sudden I couldn’t walk and I couldn’t breathe. I went to the doctor and he performed many tests. They told me I had lupus with mixed connective tissues and put me on a high dosage of Predinizone. When addressing my breathing problem, they said I had pulmonary fibrosis and I would be bedridden, on oxygen and dead in five years. My children brought me to Hippocrates in 1993 and 3 weeks later I was dancing. Since this time I have been able to reduce the Predinizone down to two milligrams and will hopefully be able to get off it entirely. Now they say I was misdiagnosed with the pulmonary fibrosis. I’ll be back soon!
