I was thrilled when Brian asked me to write a short piece about my experience in the 9-week Health Educator course and why I chose to enroll in that program. First, being at Hippocrates for the nine-week training completely transformed my life. I would urge anyone to take that extra step. It is a giant leap from the Life Change Program. The course is open, not just to practitioners, but to anyone with a passion to go the extra mile with the living foods lifestyle and the desire to lead others. The bonus is that in the process of learning how to reach out to others you find amazing benefit and treasure in your own life. That is what it is all about: inspiring others to revolutionize their lives just by BEING and LIVING what you believe in.

My Name is Valerie Brewer. I have been employed at Hippocrates Health Institute for 7 years. On October 12, 2009, my son, Michael, was surrounded by five of his peers. They poured a flammable liquid on him and set him on fire, and then left him for dead. After weeks of not knowing if Michael would live or die, the doctors finally said he was going to make it. Michael spent five weeks in an induced coma because this was the only way he would have a chance of surviving this horrific ordeal. His body blew up beyond recognition, his head was the size of a basketball and 65% of his body had 2nd and 3rd degree burns on it.

It was during the pregnancy of my fifth child, around the end of 2003, that I started developing pain beyond anything I had ever felt before. Having already given birth to four boys and expecting a girl, I wondered if it was normal to have such pains. The gynecologist said what I was experiencing was normal, most likely sciatica, and all I needed was rest. But the pain was unbearable and started attacking my nerves, running through my legs, inside the bones, into the pelvis and up my back and neck. My entire body was red and inflamed and everything was swollen. The doctors said I was retaining water and it would eventually subside. Yet the further the pregnancy advanced and the bigger I got, the worse the symptoms became. I intuitively knew something was seriously wrong.

Ten years ago when my health was  wavering and my strength was going I attended Hippocrates and learned to adopt living foods. Shortly after, I got married, and my wife and I continuing on the path of building our health were then blessed by adopting two children from Guatemala. When they arrived their skin was filled with redness and one arrived with pneumonia. We began our children on the green drinks and living food and within a few months the skin cleared and both were healthy without the use of medication. They are now 5 and 3 and our pediatrician constantly comments on how healthy they are. We are all vegetarian and still living on the program. Our gratefulness goes to Hippocrates.

Wiltraud Salm came to Hippocrates Health Institute in a wheelchair, hardly able to move. Her body was immobilized by arthritis, riddled with psoriasis and covered with terrible sores. She is preparing to leave on her own two feet, with clear skin. Wiltraud is ready to move on with her life, pursuing the activities she thought she may have to give up. Her recovery has been an inspiration to the directors, staff and guests alike at our South Florida campus. I caught up with her as her sixth week at the institute was drawing to a close and we had a chat about her stay at Hippocrates.

There are so many different paths that can lead a person to health. . .ours seems simple yet extraordinary It was almost as if we were guided to meet the right person, at the right place, and at the right time. Looking back, there wasn’t any one incident causing us to change but rather a sequence of events, all unfolding perfectly that revealed our path. Sometimes, it is difficult to imagine how we got here, given the many internal and external forces that influence us daily And while it was challenging at times, we never viewed it as ‘hard;’ we had each other for support and had arrived at a point where our commitment to ourselves and our health elevated to a level that it was no longer a question of when, where, or how-we did whatever it took to regain our health and vitality...

For many years I had been suffering from Candida Albicans without knowing it or recognizing its vague symptoms. I had skin rash all over my hands, arms and legs. My abdomen was so distended that I looked like I was in my seventh month of pregnancy. I was taking medication for asthma-like symptoms as the Candida had spread into my lungs and was causing breathing problems.
