Nothing is more hopeful than talking to a child about the future of our planet. When we speak to kids, they engage our imaginations and reignite our own dreams, bypassing the limitations and hurdles adults can often perceive.
One day during her senior year, Ruth Whalen broke out in hives. She assumed she was allergic to the clams she had eaten earlier in the week and an emergency room doctor injected her with epinephrine (adrenaline). She became psychotic. Unknowingly, she had an anaphylactic response — not to eating clams, but to drinking Coca-Cola. Ruth was allergic to caffeine. Already overstimulated, the adrenaline took her over the edge.
A healthy after-school program gains fans among children in Massachusetts
The First Lady of the Guitar The Liona Boyd Interview by Alissa Helene.
As a full time practitioner, counselor and medical physician in the Hippocrates Life Change Program, I am afforded a daily opportunity to see how proper attitude, diet and fitness are the foundation of a long and disease-free life. My interest in active aging began to evolve after embarking in the field of alternative medicine and joining the Hippocrates tem. With the introduction of hyperbaric oxygen, inhalated oxygen therapies, and whole food IV and internally implanted nutritional supplementation widely used in the conquest of disease, I began to now extraordinary effects in preserving youth. Time and again, guests and patients who participate in these therapies tell me that they have not felt so well since childhood. Remarkably, the beneficial effects of these oxygen treatments last for weeks. It is no wonder the rich and famous often choose to spend so much time doing oxygen therapies.
As a child in Lithuania, Ann had seen her own grandmother’s natural methods heal wounded German and Russian soldiers during World War One, and she knew firsthand that miracles could be made to happen with ‘harmless foods’ and liquids, without resorting to drugs and surgery.
The nectar of rejuvenation, the plasma od youth, the blood of all life. The elements that are missing in our blody's cells expecially enzymes, vitamins, hormones, and mucleic acids can be obtained through this daily green sunlight transfusion (Viktoras kulvinskas, Author of Survival into the Twenty First Century).
Food is our fuel. You don?t select your gasoline based on the color of your car. So too our fuel choices should be based on what we know our body needs. We have all indulged in something that brings a smile to our face, from sight or thought alone. All too often, we are drawn in by catchy jingles and TV spots. Only to know that aching belly or extra trip to the lavatory was a result. Factors such as time, price, mood, upbringing, present company and habit influence our meal choices. Many of us try healthier options when they are presented, and may even notice differences or slight improvements in our health. Switching from soda pop to V8 is likely a step in the right direction, but it is basically like trading a can full of sugar and acid for a bottle of salt and vegetables not suitable for sale whole.
Many years ago I was shocked to find one of my formerly obese friends looking fit, sexy and 20 years younger. As a matter of fact, when I first laid eyes on her, l didn’t recognize her. Being a positive and up-beat person who walked off the trail sometime before, getting lost in food as a friend, she causally told me that she cut a picture of a healthy body of a well-known woman from a magazine and replaced the head with a picture of her own head. She placed this composite all around her house. From this genius idea forward she utilized all of her mental will and physical power to become the hard-bodied youth she had never been. Eight months later and 93 pounds lighter, this living food body builder and aerobic enthusiast was a living example of what each of us can create when our vision is grand for the right cause. Our bodies can be one of our best friends but it does not like to carry additional pounds, be clogged with poison and fats, or have sluggish nerves and crumbling bones. Our discombobulated thoughts create discombobulated bodies. We must always recognize that it is not only our brain cells that make things happen but also our body cells are ready and able at any given moment to assist. Back in the twentieth century we taught people to sit, contemplate and reflect - in the twenty-first it demands we create, achieve and accomplish.
I have been thriving on a vegan living food diet for more than 15 years. I know The Hippocrates diet is the ultimate diet for healing from disease and gaining wellness. In my quest for the best health over the years I have kept abreast of the new “diet books” that have hit the market. They each seem to have their own success stories but none of them came close to producing the results of the HHI diet.
Eating is a primal nourishing act that connects us to the world around us. By the very process of taking in food, we transform the external environment into our internal environment. Meals are a celebration of our interdependence with nature. Yet in these modern, frenetic, convenience-ridden times, that sense of celebration has been banished from the few minutes we call lunch or dinner. Mealtimes have become more of a bother than a pleasant daily ritual that gives focus to our lives.
Our original diet was undoubtedly uncooked and vegetarian. Over the centuries we have certainly strayed from our beginnings, although in recent generations, some have made a dramatic turn back from poor eating to proper living.
I like to think of my transition to living foods as climbing a ladder. With each ascent to a new rung, the din of the naysayers grows quieter. The endless landscape of billboards aiming to sell me fast food and alcohol begins to disappear under cloud cover. The clamor of advertisements pushing the latest pharmaceuticals is more hushed.
The 3,000-year-old science of Ayurveda is a perfect complement to the live food lifestyle and cuisine. It recognizes that not only do we each have a unique constitution, but also that the effect of our diet on our constitution is amplified when we adjust what we eat according to the seasons, the cycle of our lives, our work requirements and the time of the day.
I often hear people say, “I have a bad back.” Chiropractors love to hear you say that because that means, money, money. I’m sure there are some injured backs; they are good backs crying to be release again. Have you noticed that old people can no longer turn their heads? They must turn their whole bodies because the head no longer turns. If you don’t use it, you lose it.
Some of the ideas man has come up with over time are better than others. In the last century and especially in the past 50 years new and interesting food-specific organizations have formed such as Slow Food USA, a non-profit educational organization which supports and celebrates the food traditions of North America through programs and activities dedicated to taste education, defending biodiversity and building food communities.
