Aztec Sweet Herb is a flowering edible plant that originates from Central America and the Caribbean. Like Stevia, the plant is naturally sweet and has used for over 500 years by the Aztecs as a culinary and medicinal herb. In fact, Aztec Sweet Herb is up to 1500 times sweeter than sugar with a glycemic index of zero! It is most often used today as a home sweetener for herbal tea. Traditionally, the herb has been used therapeutically for:

  • Coughs
  • Bronchitis
  • Respiratory ailments
  • Indigestion
  • Liver disorders
  • Dysentery
  • Hypertension

The plant prefers full sun but may also be suitable in partial shade. It tolerates heat well and once established, does not require a lot of water. It is a trailing plant so it does well in hanging baskets. Like mint, it will creep so, it is best to keep it contained or pruned so it does not take over the garden.
