Few crises of old age are as widely feared as a broken hip. A calcium poor diet, lack of exercise and in older women, loss of estrogen can all contribute to osteoporosis, which weakens bones. But those factors don’t fully explain the 350,000 hip fractures each year in the United States, researchers say. They suspect a surprising new culprit: Americans may be washing away their bones in a tide of acid, made as their bodies metabolize protein rich foods like meat and cheese.

Americans may have plenty of reasons to fear French fries. While they are one of the country’s favorite foods, they are soaked with trans fats, loaded with odium and full of simple carbs, the bad kind. And, it turns out, they are also full of a chemical called acrylamide, which known to cause cancer in laboratory rats and mice.

Red Bull, espresso, cappuccino, green tea, black tea, chocolate, coffee, Mountain Dew, colas, Excedrin and other pain relievers, diet pills, many cold remedies . . . what do they have in common? They all contain the most widely used mind-altering drug in the world – CAFFEINE. Caffeine is a big, booming business with 80-90 percent of adults reporting regular use. Consumers currently spend 30 million dollars a year on caffeine tablets and an additional 50 billion dollars each year on caffeinated soda in the United States alone – and for only two of the many forms of caffeine. This does not include chocolate, or the profitable coffee, latte and Starbucks sales (with the current growth rate on this planet of four new stores a day). Caffeine is such a widely accepted psychoactive drug that it is even fed to young children in the forms of chocolate and soda pop.

A Japanese study has just revealed that carrots can virtually put cancer to sleep. This is because they contain one of the more than 500 yellow-to-red pigments known as carotenoids that are chemically related to vitamin A and found mainly in green and yellow vegetables (see chart at end of article). Researchers at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, reporting in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, observed that adding alpha- and beta-carotene to human cancer cells shut down cell growth.

You know how your mother used to say breakfast is the most important meal? Well, she was right! Most of us were brought up hearing about the importance of a good breakfast, and if we wanted to be big and strong we needed a hearty breakfast every morning.

The rigid and self-serving regulations of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), a United Nation’s trade commission established in 1962, not only permeate the nutritional supplement and nutraceutical industries throughout Europe, but are extending their insidious influence into the United States. Originally established to ensure uniform concerns for the safety of consumable goods across international borders, Codex now appears to promote the interests of its governing members—the pharmaceutical, chemical, pesticide, and biotechnology industries.

“We are confronted with what is undoubtedly the single most potent technology the world has ever known more powerful even than atomic energy. Yet it is being released throughout our environment and deployed with superficial or no risk assessments — as if no one needs to worry an iota about its unparalleled powers to harm life as we know it — and for all future generations.” (Nathan B. Batalion, Americans for Safe Food)

Years ago, when I asked Anna Maria Clement where I could get better organic produce than what was being offered by my local "Whole Paycheck Market," her answer came quickly and decisively: 'You have to go to Josh's Organic Garden!"

As a rule, people don't think of the type of food they cat, the exercises they do, or their response to illness as a reflection of their internal belief system. To many new age children, the choice in these matters often does mirror their cultural world view, each one having a profound effect not only on their health, but on the health of our beloved plant, Mother Earth, as well.

NutraSweet and Equal are two of the common commercial names that use Aspartame, which was approved for table use by Arthur Hayes Jr. under President Reagan in 1981. After full approval for use in solutions in 1983 Hayes quit the FDA and went to work for NutraSweet’s public relations firm of Burson, Marsteller. Over the years it has been revealed to be the main cause of the Gulf War syndrome and, according to H.J. Roberts, M.D., it can cause decreased vision, pain in the eyes, decreased tears, ringing in the ears, hearing impairment, headache, dizziness and un-steadiness, confusion, memory loss, drowsiness, sleepiness, slurring of speech, numbness and tingling, tremors, depression, irritability, aggression, anxiety, insomnia, phobias, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, high blood pressure, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, itching, hives, menstrual changes, weight gain, hair thinning and hair loss, urinary burning and frequency, excessive thirst, fluid retention, bloating, increased infection and even death. It can also mimic epilepsy, brain tumors, fibromyalgia, systemic lupus, Alzheimer’s disease, Lou Gehrig’s disease, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, Lyme disease, Graves’s disease, Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and heart ailments. If this is not enough, those who take aspartame sweetened soft drinks anticipating it will assist with weight reduction weigh several pounds more than those people who consume the already bad conventional sugar sweetened pops.

There are now thousands of products containing MONSANTO’S  Aspartame – marketed as ‘NutraSweet’, ‘Equal’, and ‘spoonful’ but the fact is: when the temperature of Aspartame exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in aspartames converts to formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis (formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants). The methanol toxicity mimics multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus, it can cause a plague of neurological diseases, it changes the dopamine level of the brain, it goes past the blood brain barrier and deteriorates the neurons of the brain, there are 92 documented symptoms of Aspartame from coma to death. It can cause tinnitus, severe seizures, blindness and birth defects. It keeps the blood sugar level out of control. It is partially behind the mystery of the Desert Storm health problems. Several thousand pallets of diet drinks for the troops sat in the 120 degree F Arabian sun for weeks at a time. The service men and women drank them all day long. All of their symptoms are identical to Aspartame poisoning. It is grouped in the same class of drugs and cyanide and arsenic – DEADLY POISONS! This poison is now available in 90 plus countries worldwide. There are a lot of people out there who need to be warned: if it says “SUGAR FREE” on the label, DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!

I recently sat down with Alan Gould, who, along with his wife, Ellen Quinlan, owns Darbster, my favorite vegan restaurant in West Palm Beach. Their cheerful staff, led by Alan’s right-hand-woman Amanda, serves up a well-rounded menu, featuring plenty of raw options as well as vegan comfort food for our omnivorous friends who wouldn’t be caught dead eating a salad—or for plant-based eaters who just feel like a burger (Alan’s vegan sliders are a house favorite). When you visit Darbster, don’t forget your furry friends. Dogs are always welcome at this al fresco establishment. I asked Alan about the work Darbster does with animal rights and this is what he had to say…
