The showy firespike ornamental bush is a wonderful addition to any garden. Butterflies and hummingbirds cannot resist its bright scarlet red tubular blossoms!  This tropical perineal plant can grow up to four feet tall and will grow year-round in zones 10 and higher (South Florida.)  Even gardeners in zones 8 and 9 will find them growing back from the ground in the Spring after a typical winter. While it will tolerate partial shade this plant will produce more vibrant red blossoms when in full sun. When planting firespike prepare the soil with lots of rich organic compost and space the bushes two to three feet apart to give them room to grow.  Here at Wheatgrass Central we have firespike growing all over our beautiful 50 acre campus. This adds to the serene ambiance of the World’s Premier Health Encounter for the benefit of our guests. Come to Hippocrates and visit our Organic Garden to learn more about plants and enjoy a rejuvenating stay here by surrounding yourself with nature in our immaculately manicured tropical oasis!
